What is Botox®?

Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) was FDA-approved in 2002 for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles between the eyebrows and has been used in millions of patients around the world. Botox® is a protein derived from a bacterial byproduct called botulinum toxin type A. This process occurs under sterile conditions and is reconstituted from a freeze-dried powder prior to injection. It is a neuromodulator, meaning that it works on the muscles that cause facial animation, resulting in lines in the upper portion of your face such as frown lines, crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lines. The goal of treatment is to soften facial expression, not to freeze your face. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Jackson are experts in the most up to date and innovative ways to combine Botox® with topical and cosmetic treatment modalities to achieve and maintain youthful, natural rejuvenation.

Am I a candidate for Botox®?

Botox® is recommended for men and women who want to prevent or treat wrinkles between the eyes, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes. If you have a history of adverse reactions to Botox® or other neuromodulators, please let our doctors know so that we can recommend alternative injectable products.

How is a Botox® treatment performed?

Botox® is pre-loaded in a sterile syringe and injected into the muscle by one of board-certified dermatologists. We use the tiniest needles to ensure the most comfortable experience for our patients. Multiple injections are made into the appropriate muscles that are causing wrinkles. Most patients find the procedure tolerable, but we can numb the area prior to the injections if you are particularly sensitive to needles and injections. The entire procedure will take 15 to 30 minutes.

What is recovery like after a Botox® treatment?

You may experience mild redness, localized swelling or slight tenderness at the injection site after Botox® injections, but no downtime is expected.

How long do results from a Botox® treatment last?

The anti-aging benefits a Botox® injection treatment will last three to four months, but this does vary from patient to patient. Treatment to highly active muscles may wear off more quickly. Maximum results are achieved by maintaining repeated and timely Botox® injections in combination with proper skin care.
