What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is an in office procedure in which a chemical solution is topically applied to the skin. Various chemical solutions penetrate differing depths of the skin, which is why we consider some "light" peels and some "deep" peels. Chemical peels help you achieve improvement in texture and tone, lightening of hyperpigmentation, lessening of superficial lines and a healthier, more youthful look and feel with minimal down time. Chemical peels can also be paired with other cosmetic procedures to achieve optimal results.

Am I a candidate for Chemical Peels?

Almost anyone can benefit from a chemical peel. Our providers will perform a detailed analysis of your skin and determine which chemical peel, or combination of therapies, is the best treatment for you.

How are Chemical Peels performed?

After your skin has been cleansed, one of our Medical Aestheticians or nurses will apply a chemical solution to your skin for a certain amount of time, depending on the type of chemical peel being performed. A moisturizing agent or booster along with sunscreen will be applied as a final step. Sunscreen should be worn continuously after treatment as the skin will be more sensitive to sunlight.

What is recovery like after a Chemical Peel?

Light peels generally require none to minimal downtime, while more aggressive peels may cause flaky, dry skin for 4-7 days. Avoidance of sun exposure and proper sun protection is extremely important following a chemical peel.
