Sclerotherapy is the superior treatment available to improve spider veins and telangiectasias on the legs. For the treatment your doctor injects a solution into the varicose or spider vein. The solution damages the vein, which shrinks and is absorbed over time. Following treatment, bruising may result. The vessels generally disappear over a period of 2 weeks to 2 months. Optimal results usually require 3-4 treatments, with a few weeks healing time in between. Support hose are required the first two weeks after each treatment, so we recommend having sclerotherapy in the fall and winter months. The goal is to produce a 70-80% improvement overall. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Jackson will determine the optimal sclerosant solution and treatment course for you.
